Newcastle 97/98 Kids Away

Iconic adidas navy away shirt featuring a striking orange and green vertical stripe, Newcastle Brown Ale sponsor and embroidered Newcastle United crest.

This shirt captures Newcastle United during the dramatic 1997/98 season, as Kenny Dalglish took over from Kevin Keegan and the Magpies entered a very different chapter of the late-90s era.

The design featured a distinctive dark navy base, with a bold orange and green vertical stripe running through the adidas branding on the left side. Matching orange and green detailing appeared around the crew-neck collar and sleeve cuffs, while the Newcastle Brown Ale sponsor and embroidered club crest completed this wonderfully unusual adidas design.

The season featured Alan Shearer, David Batty, John Barnes, Stuart Pearce, Gary Speed, Faustino Asprilla and Ian Rush, giving the shirt a brilliant mix of established stars and cult Premier League names. Shearer and Barnes were Newcastle’s joint top scorers in the campaign with seven goals each.

Newcastle finished 13th in the Premier League, but reached the 1998 FA Cup Final, where they faced Arsenal at Wembley. They also competed in the Champions League after their previous season’s runners-up finish.

A symbol of the post-Keegan era, Shearer’s Newcastle, the famous Brown Ale sponsorship and one of adidas’ most unusual Magpies designs — pure late-90s Toon nostalgia for any collector.
